ERP life cycle - Implementation

• SW implenetation - 조직의 workflow를 integration SW로 구조적 접근

• 1990년 후~ 2000년대 초반 많은 ERP SW implementation은 failure.

• ERP life cycle의 implementation stage는 프로젝트를 성공으로 이끄는 활동을 포함해야 함

Installation

• SW implementation - disc의 SW를 변환하는 과정 + 인터넷에서 컴퓨터 하드드라이브로 다운로드 하는 과정

• ERP system, DB, OS는 multiple environments 생성하는 servers에 설치됨
  • multiple environments 는 다음을 포함한다 :
    • development (DEV) - requirements를 맞추기 위해
    • quality assurance (QA) - 테스트를 위해
    • production (PRD) - 작동을 위해

Configuration

• configuration - major task! core SW code를 변경하지 않으나 회사가 비즈니스를 위해 선택한 방법에 따라 ERP 시스템의 특정부분을 tailors

• 이 프로세스는 복잡할 수 있다.
  • dell computer는 SAP를 implemented 했으나 configuration 하는 데 1년 이상이 걸림

• vanilla implementation - 조직은 SW를 비즈니스에 맞게 tailor 하기 위해 하나의 configuration option을 골라야 한다. 이는 customization 없이 configuration으로 시스템을 만드는 방법 중 하나다.

• 모든 configuration data는 configuration table에 저장된다.
  • configuration table - configuraition에 사용되는 DB table.

• configuration decisions의 예
  • What is the default currency and language?
  • Who approves customer credit?
  • When is the fiscal year end?
  • What are the various units of measure for materials?
  • What is the transaction limit that certain employees can post before requiring a second approval?

Customization

• ERP SW는 configuration options을 무한대로 가지고 있지 않다(한계가 있다) 따라서 특정 workflow단계에서는 insert, report of form written, interface developed, functionality added가 필요.

• Customization - 이미 존재하는 코드를 수정하거나 추가해서 ERP 시스템을 회사의 unique한 필요에 따라 만들어내는 것

• Customization은 fit/gap 분석에 기반해야 한다.

• Customization의 타입
  • Reports - custon에 대한 writing, company-specific reports
  • Interface - 인터페이스는 2+ 다른 시스템과 연결되고, 데이터는 pass back and forth할 수 있다. 이 customization은 implementation단계의 major expense가 될 수 있다.
  • conversions - conversion은 data migration을 돕는다. 데이터가 시스템에서 시스템으로 추출될 때, 데이터는 한 포맷에서 다른 포맷으로 converted되어야 함.
